Health Rules for Winter
Can a person really make it through the winter with good health? The answer is a resounding, “Yes.” These tips may have come from a gentler age but their truth’s are as pertinent today as they were in yesteryear.
1. Never journey until breakfast has been eaten.
2. Never warms drinks and immediately go out into the cold
3. Keep the back, especially between the shoulders, well covered and the chest well protected.
4. In sleeping in a cold room, establish the habit of breathing through the nose, and never with the mouth open.
5. Never go to bed with cold or damp feet; always toast them by a fire 10-15 minutes before going to bed.
6. Never omit weekly bathing for unless the skin is in active condition the cold will close the pores and favor congestion and other diseases.
7. After exercise of any kind, never ride in an open carriage or near the window of a car for a moment; it is dangerous to health and even life.
8. When hoarse,., speak as little as possible until it is recovered from, else the voice may be permanently lost of difficulties of the throat produced.
9. Warm the back by the fire and never continue keeping the back exposed to heat after it has become comfortably warm; to do otherwise delbilitating.
10. When one is going from a warm atmosphere into a colder one, keep the mouth closed so that the air may be warmed by passage through the nose until it reaches the lungs.
11. Never stand still in cold weather, especially after having taken a slight degree of exercise; and always avoid standing on ice or snow, or where aa person is exposed to a cold wind.

In short, keep your feet warm, your head cool, and your mouth shut and you will seldom “catch cold.”
